What if MSFT Buys Facebook?

So the buzz is out and I am late to post on this but what would happen IF Microsoft does buy Facebook ?

As a College aged Facebook user, I personally don’t want Microsoft going in and making terrible changes like they do to their operating systems every week. Just imagine if you go from the current Facebook with the prerogative of basing their applications, and basing interfaces and many other aspects of this social network on the user; to Microsoft who would change the network like their OS, with unnecessary changes at irrational times, and alter it to the point people just don’t want it (Vista).

Personally, I don’t think Microsoft is going after Facebook with the right ambition. They’re going over more control over the internet as Robert Scoble said on his blog

Let’s say Microsoft gets Yahoo’s search. That doesn’t look that brilliant. After all, we know Google is gaining share there and taking Yahoo’s best advertisers (and let’s just forget Microsoft’s efforts, which have been an utter failure so far).

But these two moves would change everything and totally explain why Facebook is working overtime to keep Google from importing anything. First, let’s look at what is at stake here:

Loic Le Meur did a little test with me a couple of weeks ago. He listed his Le Web conference on both Facebook and Upcoming.org. Here’s the Facebook listing . Here’s the Upcoming.org one .

The Facebook one can’t be seen if you don’t have a Facebook account. It’s NOT open to the public Web. Google’s spiders CAN NOT REACH IT.

Scoble makes an excellent point as does Le Meur. If Microsoft can prevent the Block-outs, ok, fine. I’m okay with that. But to have Microsoft buy Facebook for more power and more control over the big names, to "Control the Internet" bad Idea, way bad.

So Microsoft, if you buy Facebook let them keep their creativity, don’t mess with that. If you can’t buy Facebook without butchering it, DON’T DO IT!
