Disclaimer: I participated in an online giveaway which resulted in free shwag from prAna. I am not being paid to write this, I’m doing it because I believe in their company.
prAna’s community devotion is one that rivals some of the companies we see more often giving back. A company based in Boulder, Colorado, prAna focuses on sustainable clothing, yoga, and rock climbing.
The reason I believe they’re doing it right is because, they are. Giving back, focusing on a business that in itself is economically and environmentally good is something everyone can take a lesson from.
All in all, from a social media perspective they’re also doing a phenomenal job. After winning the giveaway I shot a few emails with their influencer, Andre, he left me with some good words.
Yeah that’s my world although it goes much deeper than just the tools we use (FB, Twitter etc). A true community strategist (IMHO) has to have the tribes best interest at heart.
Real communities provide value. In prAna’s case all information has to go through my filter of…“Does this information have the ability to improve the quality of our fans/followers/customers lives”
If you don’t start from there then it the tools are just another component of marketing/PR/advertising…
So Andre, thank you, and thank you prAna for believing in a solid community and growing the social media environment with wise thoughts. Your Facebook giveaway did something not many others do, focused on the alliances and the outside importance of what you stand for, not yourselves.
Follow prAna on Facebook.
